Today on MYM360 – What’s Your Top Financial Goal for the Year? Well, the results are in and according to a survey conducted by Credit Sesame – the top two financial goals are saving for a vacation at 24% and paying off credit card debt at 23%. And, coming in third was improving their credit score at 13%.

So does this jive with what you want or do you want something totally different? Regardless of the goals you selected, be sure that they are moving you closer to and not away from your long-term vision for your life. For example, if buying a home is in your future, eliminating debt (which, by the way, should also improve your credit score is a good way to go. On the other hand, there are lots of great goals to go for like organizing your finances which we talked about yesterday in Episode 828. And, vacations are more fun when you can pay for them, enjoy them and then start saving for the next one.

The proof though is in the pudding. That is, are you going to do what it takes to actually make your financial goals a reality, such a putting together a plan of action and then following it. If you aren’t sure where to start, I talked about the S.M.A.R.T.E.R. goal setting strategy in Episode 822 so review that for some tips and strategies to help you achieve your goals. Also, if you have a really big goal for the year, consider breaking it down into smaller goals so you can see success along the way and keep your motivation going.

Remember, achieving goals in many cases is a long-distance run so don’t forget to enjoy the journey!
