It’s Friday and time for our word of the week –the word this week is Privacy.
I chose Privacy because it’s fast becoming an endangered species. Not that we had much before but at least there was some illusion of privacy but that is all gone with the recent Equifax hack. A few years ago I watched a TV program called Person of Interest where cameras could track your every move and I remember thinking I hope that never comes to pass because that is so intrusive. But it is here. From the moment you walk into a store until you leave, you are being watched. In some cases, closely watched either for security reasons or to study your behavior. Remote traffic cameras track you and your speed and magically send you tickets in the mail. And, don’t forget about the endless surveys people want you to take or is it just me? Or, the fact that the cable company keeps a record of your viewing habits, phone companies track your calls, Google and other tracks you on the internet and the list goes on.
But somehow, it got realer with the Equifax hack. That event seemed to have brought it home like no other and destroyed the illusion. Maybe it was the type of information that was hacked or maybe it was their callousness for keeping it a secret for so long like they didn’t care about us – only themselves or maybe it was something else. I don’t know. I just know that I look at things differently now and I hope you will use this event to take control and mind your money because if you don’t somebody out there just might.
Our words of the week: privacy – it has just made it to the top of the endangered species list.
And that’s it for today. I want to close by giving a shout out to one of our listeners C Shelby who left us a review on iTunes – and here’s the quote, “This is perfect for me. It’s a daily motivation or reminder that keeps me in check with my resolutions and financial goals.” Yeah – Thanks. We appreciate you very much! And don’t forget to subscribe to the show so that you never miss an episode. You can do that by visiting our website at www.mym360.com and clicking on the green bar at the top of the page.
Thanks for listening and as always remember that minding your money really is the path to a richer life!
